OUTFIT DESIGN CONTEST:
I've decided it was about time for me to hold a contest again, so after some thought about what the contest should be for, I've come up with all the details below!
THE OBJECTIVE:I have provided base images of three of my characters. The objective of the contest is to design an outfit for one of them. The outfit you design needs to reflect their personalities and/or occupations.
THE RULES/DETAILS:~ You can convey the outfit design HOWEVER you like. If you want to do a model sheet, or a sketch, or a full out drawing with a spiffy background - that's all acceptable! If you want to draw on top of my base images - FEEL FREE (but DO remember to credit me for that if you post it online).
~ Your outfit design must be an original one. You cannot use a design you got from a video game/movie/comic character, etc.
~ You must have color on the design, as it is a crucial part of the design.
~ Pay attention to character personalities and occupation. Design an outfit that works for them.
~ Likewise, don't change their hair, markings, skin color, etc. You CAN add accessories, jewelry and the like as part of the design though, of course.
~ Keep the setting in mind also. These characters belong to a fantasy setting and so something like black leather is acceptable, but blue jeans are not.
~ You may enter as many times as you like, for as many of the characters as you like.
~ Entries will be judged based on creativity, how well it works for the character it was designed for, and aesthetic appeal.
~ I will be judging the entries myself, with the input of a handful of friends, since I feel I am the best one to do the judging in this case
THE CHARACTERS:Please keep in mind that the base images provided were done to be quick and cartoony (in Bruce Timm fashion). They are NOT meant to be a literal representation of the characters' appearances. They are there to show markings, colors, hair style, or other important factors.
All of these characters belong to a race I created called the Unavisi. They have tails (like a horse), a horn on their forehead, and elf-like pointed ears. They live in a vast forest and belong in a fantasy setting. Each character will be listed with all pertinent information under their pictures. If you have any questions though, please feel free to ask!
Thanks to Kate ( ~

FIG:
[link]Appears to be: about 35 years old
Skin: deep tan/mocha
Eyes: olive green
Hair/Tail: fig pink in color. Hair falls to mid back, and tail is medium length. Hair is swept back, except for a portion of bangs on her eft side that are tucked behind her ear (or pinned with a clip or the like). Has two thick braids towards front of hair. Tail is straight and has a few thick braids mixed in.
Horn: Short and thick. Horn curves slightly inwards to a thin tip. Is pink in color
Markings: Pale yellow/cream in color. Her markings are on her cheeks, her ribcage, and her back. See ref for design
Occupation: A fiction writer, she writes short stories mostly which are sold at various shops
Notable physical traits: She has a nose piercing on the right side, and four piercings in each ear. Her body is a bit curvier than average and has lots of soft, feminine curves - she's not the athletic type!
Personality: Fig is an ecclectic writer who has - at times - unusual ideas. She tends to follow her own flights of fancy, which lean towards the exotic. She is constantly researching her current work of fiction and is full of tales of adventure and fantasy. She enjoys smoking a pipe, and is often able to give people an unusual or unexpected perspective when they face dilemmas. Her personality can bounce from fun loving to serious at the drop of a hat.
Outfit requirements: Her piercings should all be present, but they do not need to be the studs pictured in her ref. You can do whatever you like for those, but I would like for her jewelry to be gold. She also puts on eye kohl to give her eyes a more exotic appeal. She always carries a thin, long pipe for smoking tobacco. If she is not holding it or it isn't in her mouth, then it could be tied to her waist, in a pocket or pouch, etc. She may or may not have a thick headband or headpiece - something with dangles or flowers. That's up to you though, you may choose not to give her one and that is fine also! She would probably have a lot of accessories or knick knacks on her - whatever catches her eye - jewelry, feathers, beads, coins, shells, bones, flowers, etc.
STARLING:
[link]Appears to be: about 29 years old
Skin: deep blue
Eyes: shocking yellow
Hair/Tail: Violet in color, it is thick and wavy on both head and tail. She keeps her hair swept to one side and long (to mid back). Her tail is mid length.
Horn: Jet black, flat on the top side, and curved upwards on the bottom side.
Markings: Muted teal, bands on ankles and wrists, and curved circlet like designs on forehead. See ref for design
Occupation: Ink and dye maker
Notable physical traits: Considered conventionally attractive, has no piercings and has a beautymark/mole on her right cheek. See ref
Personality: Much to the chagrin of her would be suitors, this beauty is more concerned with her work than the pursuit of romance. She is studious and devoted and spends much of her time trying to find new formulations and colors of ink and dye.
Outfit requirements: Her inks and dyes are made of natural fibers, plants, flowers, minerals, animal fats, etc. This means she does spend some time outdoors. She spends an equal amount of time in her workshop though. She often wears a small backpack with parchment, inks, and ingredients with her. You may choose to include this in her design or not, your choice!
TAY:
[link]Appears to be: about 38 years old
Skin: khaki
Eyes: golden brown
Hair/Tail: Deep auburn in color, hair is short and tussled upwards, clipped short on the sides. Has short sideburns and facial hair. Tail is knee length.
Horn: Cream colored, thick and "wavy" in shape.
Markings: Brown markings on shoulders, chest, and back. Spiral markings above eyebrows (see ref).
Occupation: Stablemaster to giant stags (what most Unavisi use as mounts)
Notable physical traits: Well built, very athletic. Has a gold hoop earring in each ear, and a long scar over his upper lip on his right side from when a scared stag kicked him.
Personality: Tay is seen as a bit gruff and unapproachable. Not to be confused with being mean or disliked, he just doesn't know how to express himself usually and instead mostly remains silent or uses actions instead of words. He's not the top to go around smiling, so he frequently has the appearance of being bothered by something, though that isn't typically the case. He's a hard worker and appreciates hard work and dedication in others.
Outfit requirements: My original intention with Tay was to put him in a kilt, but I have flip flopped on the idea many times so you may choose to use that as an idea or not - up to you! He does a lot of manual labor so it's not likely that he would be dressed in something that would make that too difficult or uncomfortable!
THE PRIZES:There will be one winner for each character, meaning that there will be three prizes in all. If there are a lot of entries for one character, I will consider adding on additional prizes. If only one person enters for one character, they will automatically win. You may enter as many times as you like for whichever characters you like. If you want to draw one for each, or you want to draw one for one, or two for one, that is all acceptable.
Each prize will be the winners choice of either a mini commission from me, or 2 100x100 blinking icons from me. The mini commissions are 200x600 and you can find examples of them in my gallery (they are all marked mini). The icons are 300x300 headshots like this -
[link] which I turn into 100x100 blinking animated icons like this -

THE DEADLINE:I am giving two whole months for this contest. All entries will be due on June 29th. I do not plan on extending the due date, but will of course cross that bridge when I come to it
MISC:Thanks to everyone who participates and it would be greatly appreciated if anyone passed this on to friends. The more the merrier! You can send your entries to me as you finish them, I will be posting them below as I get them!
